Inside was Alexi, he had been brought to the junkyard to be crushed inside the van along with his diapers; all 200 of his cloth pre-fold diapers, all three cases of his leftover packs of his Attends Premier diapers, Booster pads and his clothing.
Alexi was a man whom was weakened by sickness, and was going to die anyhow.
His caregiver and the state of Washington knew how he had requested to die. It was unusual, yet not illegal. The Governor of Washington signed off on Alexis's request to be crushed inside a vehicle. The Junkyard allowed this because they believed in Death-With-Dignity, a person's legal right to choose to die on their own terms rather than succum to their illness!
Alexis was brought to the junkyard with an old 1989 Chevrolet Astro Mini panel van loaded with 200 of his cloth pre-fold diapers, all three cases of his leftover packs of his Attends Premier diapers, Booster pads and his clothing. The old mini van was weighed in and the papers were exchanged for the mini van. The scalehouse worker asked the driver of the truck towing the mini van to pull to the side so they could weigh Alexis and his diapers. Once Alexis and his diapers were on the scale, the weight was taken and all of the diapers and clothing was put back into the back of the old chevy astro panel van along with Alexis. The driver pulled through to an area where they told him to drop the van off. 18 minutes later, the driver pulled away, leaving the mini van. About half an hour later, someone from the office came to the mini van and slid the side door open.
Office Lady: Hi there, I...am Sherryl. I am the intake manager of this scrapyard. I approved your intake at the scalehouse. We own you, your things and this van. I am going to call Don, our...forklift operator to come take this piece of junk over to have the fuel take taken out, the engine, transmission and any batteries that are in here and then, he will take the van to the staging area where Don will eventually load this van into the crusher.
Alexi: So......you....bought this van and my things and I......and does....that mean that I am your property?
Sherryl: Legally, yes, we weighed you and your diapers meaning that we now own you and them. Once you and this van are at the staging area, you will NOT be allowed out of the van. You get to....stay in there until the van is crushed! Somehow, if you happen to survive the crusher, this van will be loaded onto a semi tracter trailer along with other crushed vehicles and get taken to where they get shredded.
Do.....you have anything that.....you want while you wait for the van to be prepared for crushing?
Alexi: Yes, some water and will anyone put anything else inside the van with me?
Sherryl: Funny you...should say that, I have a bunch of wet disposable diapers that need to get disposed of. I don't have trash pickup where I live, so....I may bring all of the diapers I have here and load them into the van with you. I also have some old baby clothes and some old cloth diapers that we aren't using. I am going to put them in there and then when it is time, everything will get crushed.
Alexi You....don't mind if I am wearing just my diapers do you? It's kind of hot inside the van......
Sherryl: No, I don't care, neither does Don. He said that no matter what.....this van and anything inside, alive or not, is being loaded into the crusher.
Alexi: Do any of you care that my diapers are clean or dirty?
Sherryl: No, it doesn't matter what condition your diapers are in. Whatever is inside the van, is being crushed when it is time. We don't care what is inside, it all gets crahed and then when the crushed van gets sent into the shredder, everything gets seperated and the fluff ends up at the landfill.
